I took me until sophomore year of high school to realize that academics has empowering me to bridge the gap between classroom work and real-world impact. Thru my academic journey I have discover programs and academic mentors that have helped me bridge the world of academics with short-term and long-term goals.
Why Academics Are Important to me
- For me, the pursuit of college isn't just about the degree; it’s about the depth of discovery. I desire involvement with STEM breakthroughs thru research that speaks to my ambition of helping others thru the science of medicine and medical research.
- This is the Big One! "More than just studying." Academics is a community where technical skill has the potential to increase social equity.
Academics can transform education from just classroom work into an active, community-driven mission. Academic expertise can be intentionally applied to dismantle systemic barriers and foster Social Equality.
Here is how this concept comes to life when technical skill meets social equity:
- Academics as a Force for Justice: Rather than treating academics as a neutral tool we can learn to design digital tools that prioritize fairness, accessibility, and the needs of underserved populations.
- Academics & Civic Learning: Education can move beyond the classroom via experimental learning. Where students engage in civic engagement projects and original research that address real-world challenges. Examples include the existing digital divide along with environmental hazards in disadvantaged areas.
